ATP is produced primarily inside mitochondria via the electron transport chain (ETC) and ATP synthase on the inner mitochondrial membrane.


In simplified form:

  1. You eat food — carbohydrates, fats, proteins. 
  2. Digestion breaks them into glucose, fatty acids, and amino acids. 
  3. These are converted into acetyl-CoA and other intermediates.
